Neuroscience Research at UC Davis

The agricultural, industrial and computer revolutions have changed virtually every aspect of human life, and we are now at the beginning of a new neuroscience revolution that will have an equally profound impact on how humans experience and interact with the world. Members and interdisciplinary teams in our Consortium are tackling this challenge now because of the rapidly growing prevalence of intractable psychiatric and neurological disorders, and because of the need to develop truly intelligent technologies that will help us solve the broad range of challenges that currently face humanity.

Research in the UC Davis Neuroscience Consortium has remarkable breadth and depth. Our neuroscientists cover all of the major sub-disciplines in neuroscience (Research Levels), from basic to translational, to clinical neuroscience. Their research spans a wide range of Research Topics and model systems, focusing on the most challenging questions in our field. Our labs use innovative technologies and approaches, adapted and developed for use by our Consortium researchers. Finally, the collaborative, interdisciplinary approach fostered by our Consortium allows us to conduct cutting-edge and transformative translational and clinical research that addresses the increasing prevalence of brain disease that is one of the grandest challenges to humanity.

The strength of our Consortium is shown by the success of our researchers and clinicians in attracting funding. Our research is supported by individuals, private foundations, corporations and public organizations, including the University of California, National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Science Foundation, W.M. Keck Foundation, Pew Scholars Program, Pritzker Neuropsychiatric Disorders Research Consortium, Human Frontier Science Program, Veterans Administration, James S. McDonnell Foundation, Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, Ester and Joseph Klingenstein Fund, ARCS Foundation, M.I.N.D. Institute and National Aeronautics and Space Administration. Astoundingly, mind and brain research funding from the NIH alone exceeded $121,000,000 in 2021 - accounting for over 38% of all NIH  funding for research at the University of California, Davis and truly emphasizing the importance and translatability of Consortium research endeavors.
